Jen Rizzo rizzo.jen@gmail.com 513.375.4771 I'm a digital designer based out of Cincinnati, OH. As of June 2008, I hold a B.S. in Design from the University of Cincinnati. The work you see here is representative of what I've done in the past five years as a designer. It's organized chronologically, so it's easy for me to update, and return viewers don't have to jump around to see what's new. Feel free to check me out on the web elsewhere: Blog Flickr |

![]() Paloma Picasso Cufflinks - Winter 2008 - Cinema 4D This was part of a series of experiments I did for Tiffany. We really wanted to explore the tactile properties of some of their jewelry, so we focused on some of the designer pieces and did some detailed renders. This was part of a very simple animation, but I loved the textures. |

![]() Majdanek - Summer 2007 - Photoshop & Illustrator A few members of the Digital Design '08 class went to Lublin, Poland, at the end of our 4th year. We spent the quarter coming up with concepts related to the Holocaust, and specifically, the tragedies that occurred at Majdanek. These are storyboards from various steps in my process. I was creating a motion-based piece that would give some context to the numbers and statistics of the Holocaust for people in their early twenties. |
![]() Cold Red Bitter Apple - Summer 2007 - Photoshop & Illustrator As an exercise for our seminar class, we were all given the phrase "The hungry boy eats the cold, red, bitter apple", and we were instructed to illustrate it however we saw fit and then test it on other people to see if they understood what it meant. I did one illustration per concept and tested them in this order to see if people understood them, then switched the illustrations around to see if they made sense in another configuration. (Most people understood this version, but struggled with "The cold bitter apple eats the red hungry boy".) |
![]() ![]() Godiva - Spring 2007 - Cinema 4D These are visualizations for a new configuration of a Godiva retail location. It was the most delicious project ever. It was also one of the fastest. The whole model came together in less than a week. Design credit to FRCH Design Worldwide. |
![]() Virgin - Spring 2007 - Cinema 4D This is a visualization of a Virgin Records store. We went through a few design revisions on this one. I was responsible for some merchandising, modeling fixtures, animating, and creating updated textures. Design credit to FRCH Design Worldwide. |
![]() ![]() ![]() Under Armour Flagship - Spring 2007 - Cinema 4D FRCH designed the Under Armour flagship store in Annapolis, MD. These images are from a flythrough created to help them visualize the fixtures in the space, as well as show the client our interpretation of the underbelly of a stadium applied to retail. This was my first project where they allowed me to be the sole designer. Design credit to FRCH Design Worldwide. |
![]() ![]() ![]() ESPN Idents - Winter 2007 - Nikon D70, Photoshop & After Effects This is the most fun I think I've ever had with a school project. We chose a cable network and created two idents and a menu for them. I'm a closet armchair-coaching sports nerd, so I immediately jumped on ESPN. When searching for inspiration, I printed out their logo, then decided to cut it out. As I was playing around with the pieces, I realized I could make them into recognizable objects. This was right in the middle of my stop motion obsession, so I grabbed a camera and went on my way. The top image is hockey, the middle image is football, and the last image is my menu. |
![]() Moynihan Station - 2006 - 3D Studio Max These are assorted visualizations for the Moynihan Station redesign. My role at SOM was a fun one: as the design was ongoing, I would take drawings and visualize them so we could really get a sense of the space before any solid decisions were made. The connector stair images on the left and bottom right are entirely by me. The top and middle images on the right were created with Matt Beharry. Design credit to Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, NYC. |
![]() BRT Wall Graphic - Summer 2006 - Illustrator One of my favorite projects at DAAP was to develop an image strategy for a new rapid transit line that was being proposed in Cincinnati. This is one of my images that would be used as a large-scale wall graphic. I wanted to appeal to younger riders to promote using the bus instead of driving everywhere. |
![]() Polaroid Colorpack - Winter 2006 - Cinema 4d I have a huge love for old cameras, so when we were told to select an object to model in detail, I knew my Polaroid Colorpack would come in handy. |
![]() Grandma's Books - Autumn 2005 - Mixed Media, InDesign My grandmother was one of the most important people in my life. She passed away in 2004. She always wrote poems for her friends and family - birthdays, anniversaries, you name it, she had a poem carefully prepared. My mother collected all of the poems she could after she passed away, and my husband and I hand-bound 27 books to give to each of my family members as a Christmas present in 2005. John was responsible for the layout and helping with the covers, and I hand-sewed each of them and placed the pages in with photo corners, as a tribute to my grandmother's love for scrapbooks. It was a lot of hours devoted to a needle and thread, but I'd do it again in a second. |

Icon Development - Winter 2005 - Pencil, Marker, Adobe Illustrator My sophomore year of college, we had to take an icon development class. We were frustrated every single day (especially those of us who aren't quite as skilled at hand drawing), but this remains one of my favorite process pieces. We spent 10 weeks getting to know one object. Mine is this funny shaped key from a hotel in Wichita, Kansas. We first drew the object in pencil, then rendered it in marker, then rendered it in Illustrator. After that, we created an icon of it. Then we came up with a system of icons that it might be included in - mine are for a hardware store. We went through slightly abridged versions of the process with the other two objects to come up with three icons in the end. |
